Stainless steels are a family of iron based alloys that contain a minimum of 10.5% chromium (CR). The presence of chromium creates an invisible surface film that resists oxidation and makes the material passive or corrosion resistant (stainless). There are multiple families of stainless steel which are designed for various applications and uses. Stainless grades can be further modified to meet various processing, corrosion, temperature and strength conditions.

PME offers many alloys including 303, 304, 304L, 316 and 316L which are used in mildly corrosive service. 309S, 310S and 321 are used extensively in aircraft exhaust systems, while 17-4PH finds extensive use in structural components. Stainless steel plate grades 303, 310S 5 have been used in space and missile systems.
Alloys 15-5PH and 13-8MO can be used in components in the nuclear and petrochemical industries, and also aircraft components such as structural sections and landing gears, shafts and valves.
Alloys such as 304, 316L,17-4PH and 2205 are used in the manufacture of military vehicle cabs, armor and shock absorbers, missile fire control systems and tanks.
